This blog is being created as part of the
Egyptian Society for Mercy to Animals education and awareness campaign.
Egypt is in dire need to begin an education and awareness campaign which will serve to educate school age children and the community at large on the proper care and treatment of animals. The need for such a program became even more evident and urgent after some tragic events that occurred the first week in December 2010. Please take a moment to read this appeal from an ESMA founder explaining the circumstances:
Dear All,
This morning on his way to our shelter, one of our employees, Walid, found some children drowning a puppy in a canal. He acted right away to save the puppy who is now at the shelter, but in an awful twist he arrived at the shelter only to find someone else at the door with a single puppy rescued from four who were burned by children on the side of the road. It is uncertain if he will survive. These terrible incidents point to the desperate need for us to launch the education program we have long wanted to.
First of all I have no shame or embarrassment to APPEAL to you to help me raise funds for this now critically needed program. All expenses from the funds and total funds collected will be my own personal responsibility, and I will be accountable for them in front of you.
I will not even try and make this 'appeal' rosy. Read what has happened in one morning and ask yourselves if this appeal is worthy to donate for. As we need a huge amount of money to finance this program, I also take the liberty of asking you to forward to all your contacts. If anyone wants to see the full story and comments please join ESMA Egyptian Society for Mercy to Animals on facebook, and read the full story and comments (We have two pages, please go to them both).
PLEASE HELP US CHANGE THE FACE OF ANIMAL WELFARE IN EGYPT, IT HAS TO START BY EDUCATING THE CHILDREN WHO COMMIT THESE HORRIBLE ACTS OF CRUELTY.
I hope you will be able to help with this critically needed initiative. This work will involve designing a program outline, a work plan, and a timeline for creating a curriculum in English and Arabic for children between the ages of 5-12, aimed at teaching children the importance of kindness to animals and the basic concepts of animal welfare. This program can then be taken into the public and private schools systems, and used to present workshops or talks at clubs, community centers, and other family gathering places. We can work with strategic partners such as local NGOs and international organizations to make it happen. Funds are needed for the development of the program, program costs, and the design and printing of the materials for the curriculum, among other things.
Thank You! I know you will help us finance or support in any other way you can, even if it is by forwarding to other people this much needed campaign.
With best regards to you all.
