UPDATED January 31 (from comment posted on ESMA Facebook page):

Thanks to all of your help, we have raised almost $1500 in two days! I will get this to them as soon as the banks in Cairo are open, which hopefully will be later this week, depending on how things develop. Please continue to spread the word to your friends that we need to keep raising money, since costs are going to be very high this month (and into the future, depending on what happens next in Cairo). We expect that as soon as people can move around the city, many cases of needy dogs and cats will come to us. We also expect to have to deal with the very sad situation of foreigners leaving Cairo and not taking their pets with them.

UPDATED February (from ESMA Facebook page):

ESMA 'Egyptian Society for Mercy to Animals' Thanks to everyone for the continuing donations! We have raised $4,300 since Friday, thanks to so much compassion and concern coming for all over the world. We are hoping that the commercial banks will open on Sunday. While we cannot solve the political situation, we certainly can work on the humanitarian level.

  2. Thank you. I'm not sure how physical donations could be brought to Egypt. But every effort helps for sure.

  3. Yes please I also do not have a card but I would like to try and collect physical donations. Please let us know if there is any other ways we can help here in the US. I will donate as soon as I have money!

  4. Physical donations would be very expensive to ship. If you are in the US you can send a check to Animal Diplomacy. You can find their address in this link: http://esmaegypt.org/blog/how-to-help/

  5. Yes, advise against physical donations. Physical goods coming to Egypt are often taxed by customs at way more than their value - even if they ever make it to the intended recipient.
